While Compass has made a huge impact in simplifying the entire real estate business, it is also committed to giving back to the communities in which its agents are active. With its new Compass Cares charity initiative, the company is looking to not only establish itself as a pioneer in the real estate business but also to inspire its network and the entire industry to make a charitable impact. Here is everything you need to know about it.

What is it?

Compass Cares was launched by Compass CEO Robert Reffkin in 2018 as the company’s first charitable initiative. It is a national community program designed to crowdsource donations from Compass agents and employees, where every sale in a community goes towards funding charities in that neighborhood and around the country. The program is a way for Compass’ vast network of agents and the company as a whole to be empowered to give back through their everyday work. 

How does it work?

Since the program’s launch in 2019, 100% of Compass real estate transactions have resulted in a donation from the company towards Compass Cares. It works by contributing a portion of the commission from the sale of every home to the fund—an amount pre-determined by every agent and employee that is part of the Compass network. Those funds are then distributed proportionally to all of the local Compass offices, who then decide what charities they would like to donate to.

This program differs from other charity initiatives in that it allows the local Compass offices to have a say in where the funds raised through the program are donated rather than a large corporate body donating to one or a few charities of their choice. No one knows a community better than the agents that serve it, and there couldn’t be a better advocate for local needs than those who live and work there. Based on sales projections made at the launch of Compass Cares, the company estimates it will donate over $10 million in funds to local organizations in 2019.
